Description
The traditions of each area must be respected and, almost always, the right thing to do is to follow them to the letter. In Cangas, all the red grapes from the parcels were blended together to make the family wine. This wine is a tribute to the old Cangas winemakers; it is the blend of the red varieties cultivated in Cangas since time immemorial. Those that our ancestors learned to combine in the right proportion and with which they created the simple and elegant wines they used for their own consumption.
Albarín Negro, Carrasquín, Verdejo Negro, and Mencía come from a combination of plots with slopes of over 30%, excellent sun exposure, elevations above 400 meters, 60-year-old bush vines, and soils of disintegrated slate, limestone, and clay, which provide unusual complexity and balance. In all of them, viticulture is manual and follows the ancestral practices developed in the Narcea region for centuries, with very short pruning, animal labor, and organic fertilization. Aging on fine lees for 5 months in 225L French oak barrels of one and two wines. Harvested in early October 2018, after a cool and rainy spring and summer, which gave rise to perfumed and refreshing wines with enormous capacity to evolve in the bottle.
Escolinas Mezcla Canguesa is a wine made in the 21st century following the ancestral methods used by our grandparents for centuries. It is a tribute to the men and women who, with their work, have allowed us today to enjoy these impossible and unique vineyards.
